THE-ICE Global Revenue Management (GRM) Challenge

THE-ICE Global Revenue Management (GRM) Challenge

It’s time to come together, to share and develop knowledge and experiences

to collectively build something for the future of our students & staff

to put our training and talents to the test

and do battle for the best prizes that have ever been offered to hospitality and tourism students

It is time for THE-ICE Global Revenue Management (GRM) Challenge!

The big idea

THE-ICE, in association with Russell Partnership Technology and CoStar SHARE Center, was delighted to launch our first-ever global student competition in 2021, exclusively for students of THE-ICE-accredited member institutions.

THE-ICE GRM Challenge is our chance to pull together and build something good for the benefit of our students and staff, so we call on all our members to engage and support this initiative.

The Challenge unites students from across THE-ICE network into teams in an innovative and exciting format that tests and develops their hospitality and tourism revenue management skills.

How does it work?

Students are grouped into international teams of 4 or 6, representing at least three different institutions from THE-ICE’s global network. The goal is to foster cross-cultural collaboration, encourage knowledge sharing, and strengthen teamwork skills.

Each team is supported by a CHIA-certified (or equivalent) academic from a participating member institution and gains access to the Russell Partnership Technology Revenue Management programme. Within this simulated online environment, students work together to manage sales and revenue for a virtual hotel, making strategic decisions to compete in THE-ICE GRM Challenge.

The best prize package ever

THE-ICE and our partners are committed to encouraging participation and rewarding effort. We believe that learning and collaboration should be celebrated, not just first place, which is why all participating students on the three highest-placed teams receive the following prizes:

1st Place

  • A $AUD1500 bursary towards study offered by any member of THE-ICE.
  • Free registration for the Certification in Hotel Industry Analytics (CHIA) or the Certification in Advanced Hospitality and Tourism Industry Analytics (CAHTA) – for those who already hold CHIA Certification, offered by CoStar SHARE Center.
  • Free registration for the Hospitality Business Acumen (HBA) Certificate programme, offered by Russell Partnership Technology.

2nd Place

  • Free registration for the Certification in Hotel Industry Analytics (CHIA) or the Certification in Advanced Hospitality and Tourism Industry Analytics (CAHTA) – for those who already hold CHIA Certification.
  • Free registration for the Hospitality Business Acumen (HBA) Certificate programme.

3rd Place

  • Free registration for the Hospitality Business Acumen (HBA) Certificate programme.

Supporting learning and certification

The Certification in Hotel Industry Analytics (CHIA) is not only an industry-recognised qualification but also the best way to prepare for the competition. To ensure a level playing field, at least one member of each team in the GRM Challenge must be CHIA certified or hold an equivalent certification. However, as the competition provides a valuable incentive for students to pursue CHIA and offers a practical application of the skills they learn, THE-ICE has agreed to supplement the cost of this certification for team members with a minimum discount of 20% on standard prices!

For full details on CHIA pricing, visit the CoStar SHARE Center website. If you have any questions or need information about upcoming online workshops, special pricing, or registration details, please email sharecenter@str.com.

Professional development opportunities for staff and students

Each GRM team is advised and coordinated by at least one CHIA-certified (or equivalent) academic from a member institution of THE-ICE. To encourage staff involvement in the Challenge, CoStar SHARE Center is offering free train-the-trainer sessions for staff who wish to gain the Certification in Hotel Industry Analytics (CHIA). Trained and certified staff can then offer CHIA training to GRM team members, supported by a comprehensive PowerPoint presentation, videos and online training.

For more information or to register for the train-the-trainer sessions, contact sharecenter@str.com.
