CoStar Group Academic Engagement (formerly known as CoStar Group SHARE Center) became THE-ICE’s first Business Alliance Partner in 2015.
The Academic Engagement team was established in 2011 with a mission to support education and professional development across the hospitality industry. In 2012, they launched their first student-focused certification – the Certification in Hotel Industry Analytics (CHIA) – in collaboration with STR, AHLEI, and ICHRIE. Originally designed for hospitality students, the CHIA program has since expanded to serve industry professionals as well.
After integrating into CoStar Group in 2019, their scope broadened to include business, real estate, and other university programs that benefit from access to CoStar’s global data and analytics. To support this expanded remit, CoStar Group Academic Engagement developed a centralised learning platform that hosts multiple certification programs and supports academic institutions in onboarding CoStar resources for both classroom learning and research.
Since its inception, CoStar Group Academic Engagement has partnered with hundreds of colleges and universities across more than 80 countries, and remains committed to advancing education and professional development through globally relevant programs.
CHIA – Certification in Hotel Industry Analytics (launched 2012)
CHIA is designed for undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as professors.
- Thousands of students worldwide have achieved CHIA certification.
- More than 800 professors have completed CHIA Train-the-Trainer (TTT) workshops.
- CHIA provides recognition of foundational data analytics and strategic benchmarking knowledge – skills essential in the hospitality industry today.
CAHTA – Certification in Advanced Hospitality and Tourism Analytics (launched 2019)
CAHTA builds on the CHIA foundation and is now offered by leading institutions around the world. It provides comprehensive training on four popular hospitality and tourism research projects:
- Market study
- Event impact analysis
- Economic analysis
- Feasibility study
Students gain hands-on experience working with data, conducting industry-quality research, and presenting their findings.

In addition to affiliation with THE-ICE, CoStar Group Academic Engagement partners with a wide range of academic and industry organisations, including:
