Local Attractions

The Buxton Visitor Centre, is situated in the beautiful Victorian Pump Room in the heart of the town, and offers many services including advice on local attractions, walks and accommodation. Open Tues-Sat 10:00-16:30 and Sundays 10.30-16:00. A map of Buxton can also be viewed here.

Solomon’s Temple

Take a gentle stroll up to Solomon’s temple and overlook the historic Spa town of Buxton and the  surrounding Peak District. Please be aware that this walk is quite steep and reaches heights of 440 metres. From the visitor centre car park, the walk to Solomon’s Temple and back can take between 50 minutes – 1 hour, 15 minutes depending on pace. Public toilets and a café are available at the visitor centre.

Poole’s Cavern

Explore the limestone caverns and see how crystal stalactites lined the chambers over millions of years. Pre-booked Cavern tours are available from 10am – 4.30pm and cost £12.50 per adult. Each tour lasts approximately 50 minutes underground at a constant temperature of 7 centigrade, 44 Fahrenheit. Please be aware that there are 28 steps in the Cavern, no more than 10 in one place. Poole’s Cavern shares the visitor centre with Solomon’s Temple. Further information can be found here.

Buxton Museum & Art Gallery

Visit Buxton Museum and Art Gallery to discover the archaeology, geology, art and history of the Peak District. Open Tuesday – Saturdays, 10am – 1pm and 2pm – 4.30pm. Entry is free, however pre-booking is required. Further information can be found  here.

Green Man Gallery

The Green Man Gallery is an independent contemporary gallery, arts centre and a creative hub. Explore crafts and arts from designers and artists across Derbyshire. Entry is free, however pre-booking is required. Further information can be found here.

Buxton Opera House

Buxton Opera House is a beautiful Edwardian theatre dating back to 1903. One of the finest examples of Frank Matcham theatre design, offering a year-round programme of entertainment. Further information and the Programme of Events can be found here.

Pavilion Gardens

The Pavilion Gardens offer twenty-three acres of landscaped gardens, lakes , and play areas, providing the ideal space for a relaxing walk. Food, drink, shopping facilities and public toilets are available. The Gardens are just a short walk from the town centre, Buxton Opera House and the Devonshire Dome.

Buxton Crescent Spa 

Buxton Crescent offers a unique, luxury spa experience, combining traditional beauty therapies with wellness and holistic treatments. The Crescent Spa offers a wide range of spa and beauty treatments to help you find calm and tranquillity after a busy day.
